U.S. MUSKET MODEL 1816 TYPE III SPRINGFIELD ARMORY FLINTLOCK .69
Manufactured by Springfield Armory, Springfield, Ma. in 1837 - Standard Model 1816 Type III Springfield single-shot muzzle-loading musket. Iron furniture. Bright finish. Detachable brass pan. Three bands with upper band double-strapped. This is one of 14,500 muskets manufactured in 1837 at a cost of $11.69 each. Missing top jaw and screw. Few dings in left side of stock.
Markings:
Lock: Eagle/US front of cock. SPRING/FIELD/1837 behind cock.
Barrel: V/P/Eaglehead and dated 1837.
Trigger guard: CB.
Sideplate: S.
Middle band: S.
Buttplate: US. 31 (possibly old museum number).
1909 Catalog #2058 - "Musket. Sp'f'd Smooth Bore Flint Lock Musket. Cal..6875. M'f'd 1837. On tang, 1836."
