Object Description:

FN RIFLE T48 .22 SN# 1816
Manufactured by - Rifle modified to fire .22 ammunition. Weighs 8 lbs. 12 oz. No magazine. Flash suppressor taped to forearm.

Markings:
Receiver: FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE-HERSTAL. BELGIUM. RIFLE CALIBER .22 T48 F.N.
Stock: A/18 in yellow paint.

Weapon transferred to the Museum on 5 January 1965. At that time weapon was appraised at $250.00.

Notes: "As a consequence of Gustafson's work, caliber .22 Carbines were included in the SALVO I field trial and numerous other comparative trials of the period. As further discussed in chapter 2, 'hands-on' experience gained with the Gustafson Carbine along with the other experimental SCHV rifle, the '.22 NATO' T48, proved invaluable in refining the SCHV concepts to the point of future acceptance by the Infantry Board." - Stevens & Ezell
