U.S. RIFLE M1 .30 SN# 5941421
Manufactured by Springfield Armory, Springfield, Ma. - Standard M1 gas-operated semi-auto rifle that had been experimentally coated with Teflon. Fed by 8-shot, staggered column, "en bloc" clip. Muzzle velocity 2800 fps. Weapon weighs approximately 9.5 lbs. Weapon complete and in very good condition.

Bolt: 6528287-SA/A15.
Barrel: 11-55.
Stock: P in circle. Defense Acceptance Stamp.

Weapon transferred to the Museum from the Marine Corps Museum, Quantico, Va.

Notes: "MYTHS & REALITIES.
MYTH: M1 Rifles can found in "unfired" condition.
FACT: All M1 Rifles are test fired prior to final acceptance. The 'P' in circle on the pistol grip indicates successful proof firing of a 70,000 psi high pressure test cartridge. Subsequently the M1 was then test fired 24 rounds for functioning. There is NO such thing as an M1 Rifle in 'unfired condition!'
