MYTH: M1 Rifles can found in "unfired" condition.
FACT: All M1 Rifles are test fired prior to final acceptance. The 'P' in circle on the pistol grip indicates successful proof firing of a 70,000 psi high pressure test cartridge. Subsequently the M1 was then test fired 24 rounds for functioning. There is NO such thing as an M1 Rifle in 'unfired condition!' (See Ord Tool Book, pages 190-191.)" - THE GARAND STAND REPORT, Winter, 2004.
