Object Description:

U.S. PISTOL MODEL 1911 GALLERY PRACTICE .22 SN# 499988
Manufactured by Colt, Hartford, Ct. in 1918. - Frame only. Complete will all parts and checkered wood grips. Blued finish. Weapon has been stripped of .22 Gallery Practice unit. Pistol test fired at Borden Brook on 10/19/1918. Frame complete and in good condition.

Markings:
Frame: UNITED STATES PROPERTY. Eaglehead/6. (Right): NO. 499988.
Triggerguard: 27 on left side. S in circle on right side.

Weapon transferred to the Museum from the Ordnance Property Office, Washington, D.C. on 29 August 1932. Weapon listed as being here in special inventory of March 23, 1933.

Army # 5122 - "This pistol was converted to an automatic loading pistol Cal. .22, using a special barrel and slide on the receiver of a Colt's Automatic Pistol M1911."

Notes: Photo taken c1960s shows this pistol fully intact.

"...You also have receiver 499988, which, as you can see, once had a .22 unit (#12) on it and is on the list contained in the report. Unit #12 is now on frame #102547 and in the N.R.A. collection in Wash. D.C. Quite a puzzle!" - Scott Meadows.
